The board of trustees is the highest governing body of the institute and is made up of individuals individually recognised by the business, academic, scientific, technological, institutional and social world.
Gabriel Ferraté Pascual – Honor President
Former Rector of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC); was the founding Rector of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC); Director of the School of Industrial Engineering of Barcelona; General Director of Universities and Research and General Director of Science Policy for the Spanish Government; and Vice-President of the Inter-departmental Commission on Technological Research and Innovation (CIRIT) of the Government of Catalonia.
Salvador Alemany Mas – President
He is president of Saba Infrastructures; Vice-President of the Spanish Association of Motorways, Tunnels, Bridges and Other Toll Road Concessionaire Companies (ASETA), Vice-President of Parc Logístic SA and of the Intermodal Logistics Centre, SA (CILSA). He has been President of the Economic Circle and also of the Advisory Council for the Economic Reactivation of Catalonia. He has a degree in economics and a Diploma from IESE.
Jordi Mercader Miró – Vicepresident
He is president of Miquel y Costas & Miquel. He was Vice-President of La Caixa, President of the AGBAR Group, President of the Pulp and Paper Industries (INPACSA) and of the National Institute of Industry. He has also been President of Institut Cerdà and Spokesperson of the Social Projects Committee of La Caixa. He has a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and an MBA from IESE.
Strategic Mobility Actions Director of the Barcelona Municipal Infrastructures Company (BIMSA, Barcelona City Council) since 2018 and Coordinator of the Project for the Connection of the Tram Networks since 2015. He has also been the Dean of the College of Civil Engineers of Catalonia since April 2014. He was also Deputy Director of the Barcelona City Council Urban Ecology Department from 2013 to 2017. He is a Civil Engineer, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). His professional career has involved work in both the public and private sectors related to infrastructure, urban and organizational projects, in different companies and institutions.
Silvia Ávila Rivero
She is the Director of Bancaseguros and Deputy Director General of Banc Sabadell. She joined Banc Sabadell in 1990 where she has developed her professional career, holding various positions, including Commercial Ddirector of Bancaseguros and General Director of the group’s insurance companies (Bansabadell Vida, Bansabadell Pensiones and Bansabadell Seguros Generales). She has a degree in Economics and Business Administration (University of Barcelona), and her other qualifications include the Executive Marketing Management Programme (ESADE) and the Zurich Leadership Program (London Business School). She is a member of the Institute of Spanish Actuaries, the International Association of Actuaries, the Circle of Economics and the Advisory Council of the Fundació Formació i Treball..
Modest Batlle i Girona
He is the Professor of Projects of the School of Civil Engineering of Barcelona and Vice-President of the Circle of Infrastructures. He has been a Councillor of the City of Barcelona and Dean of the Professional College of Civil Engineering of Catalonia. He has a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering and is also an Architect.
Antoni Brufau Niubó
He is the Executive President of Repsol and Vice-Chairman of the Gas Natural Fenosa Group. He has been Associate Deputy-Director General of La Caixa; has also been General Director of La Caixa group; and also President of the Gas Natural Group. He has a Degree in Economics and an honorary Ph.D. from the University Ramon Llull in Barcelona.
Jordi William Carnes
He is General Director of the Barcelona Board of Tourism, President of the Technological Circle of Catalonia (CTecno) and Founder of the consulting company Carnes Global Projects (CGP). He has been Deputy Mayor of the City of Barcelona, responsible for Treasury and Economic Development and Minister of Agriculture, Livestock farming and Fisheries for the Government of Catalonia. He is a has a Degree in German Literature from the University of Barcelona and a Masters degree in Public Management from the ESADE and PADE-IESE business schools.
Àngels Guiteras Mestres
She is Director of the Association of Wellbeing and Development (“Associació Benestar i Desenvolupament – ABD” in Catalan). She started her professional career at the beginning of the 1980s working for a social sector organisation setting up care for those suffering alcoholism and other drug-dependencies in the City of Barcelona. Between 2009 and 2015 she was President of the Board of the Voluntary and Social Sector of Catalonia and is a member of their Advisory Board. She has a Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Barcelona, a Diploma in Business Administration from the ESADE business school and is also qualified in the Management of Social Policy.
Francisco Gutiérrez i Ferràndez
He has been the Director of AENA’s Barcelona Plan; Manager of the Catalan Waste Management Agency (la Junta de Residus); President of Planta Incineradora de Residus Especials, S.A; CEO of Motorways of Catalonia (Autopistes de Catalunya); Manager of the Tarragona Water Consortium. He is a Civil Engineer and also has a Diploma in High Level Business Management (IESE).
Is President of Istida (Investments Consultancy) in addition to collaborations with the firm BCN Economistes. He was the founder and Vice President of Crolls Mexicana, President of the Board of Directors of the venture capital company Capital Impúls, member of the board of La Caixa d’Estalvis de Cataluña and of the Grupo Banco Industrial de Cataluña. He is President of the social council of the UPC. He has a degree in Economics and business administration and also a business qualification from IESE.
Pere Macias i Arau
He is president of the Fundació Cercle d’Infraestructures and is a Member of the Spanish Parliament. He has taught at the School of Civil Engineering of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC); has been the Mayor of Olot, Girona; President of the Provincial Council of Girona (la Diputació de Girona); Member of the Catalan Parliament and a Minister of Environment and of Regional Policy and Public Works, both in the Government of Catalonia. He is a Civil Engineer.
Josep Mª Martí i Escursell
He is CEO of Moventia (a group of companies employing more than 2,300 people whose business is urban and inter-urban, passenger road transport). He is a member of the Executive Committee of FECAV (The Federation of Catalan Passenger Road Transportation Companies) and representative of these companies within the Metropolitan Transport Authority of Barcelona (ATM). He is a Civil Engineer (UPC) and also has a diploma in High level Business Management (IESE).
Mariano Marzo Carpio
He has a Ph.D. in Geology and is Professor of Stratigraphy and Lecturer in Energy Resources and the Geology of Hydrocarbons at the Department of Earth and Ocean Dynamics, in the Faculty of Earth Sciences at the University of Barcelona. He is a member of the Royal Academy of Science and Arts of Barcelona and also of the sustainable Development Advisory Board of Catalonia. He has participated in various Energy related advisory boards at the national and regional level as well as in other institutions. He maintains a continuous relationship with the petrochemical and gas industries through his applied research and training activities in the sector. He has travelled in Europe, the United States of America, South America, the Middle East and North Africa. He has developed an intense activity as a public speaker and analyst on Energy matters for the media.
Jordi Miarnau i Montserrat
He is president of Comsa Corporation. He is also Honorary President of the European Federation of Railway Trackworks Contractors (EFRTC); Councillor of Mutua Asepeyo. He is a Civil Engineer and graduate of the IESE General Management Programme (GMP). He also has a Masters degree in Management of Construction Companies (Fundación Agustín de Betancourt, Madrid).
Joan Molins Amat
He is Vice-president and CEO of Cementos Molins; Vice-president of the Moctezuma Corporation (Mexico); President of Cementos Artigas (Uruguay); Vice-president of Cementos Avellaneda (Argentina); and Board member of SAICA. Has been the President of the Circle of Economics; is a member of the Executive Committee of the IESE members association and of the Assembly of patrons of ESADE. He is a Civil Engineer.
Raquel Sánchez Jimenez
Mayor of Gavà since 2014, she was previously Deputy Mayor responsible for Economy and Finance, Human Resources and General Services and Spokesperson for the municipal group of the Socialist Party in Gavà. She has also served as Deputy Mayor for Town Planning, Economic Promotion, Environment and Sustainability. She is the Institutional Vice-President of the Barcelona Metropolitan Area, Second Vice-President of the Spanish Network of Cities for the Climate and is part of the executive of the Airport Regions Council. She has a Batchelors Degree in Law from the University of Barcelona (UB) and a Master’s degree in Labour Law and Social Security from the Pompeu Fabra University.
Ángel Simón i Grimaldos
He is Executive President of the AGBAR group. He is also Third Vice-President of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation; member of the Board of Directors of Suez Environment; a member of the Board of Directors of Adeslas and member of the Executive Committee and the Board of the Circle of Economics. He is a Civil Engineer (UPC) and also has an MBA in Business Administration from ESADE.
