The board of trustees is the highest governing body of the institute and is made up of individuals individually recognised by the business, academic, scientific, technological, institutional and social world.
Gabriel Ferraté Pascual – Honor President
Former Rector of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC); was the founding Rector of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC); Director of the School of Industrial Engineering of Barcelona; General Director of Universities and Research and General Director of Science Policy for the Spanish Government; and Vice-President of the Inter-departmental Commission on Technological Research and Innovation (CIRIT) of the Government of Catalonia.
Salvador Alemany Mas – President
Economist. Chairman of Saba Infraestructuras since July 2011, and previously CEO of the same company (since 1987) and Chairman of the Abertis Group (2009-2018). He has also held the positions of CEO of Abertis and CEO of Acesa Infraestructuras. Currently, Salvador Alemany is also President of the Board of Trustees of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, President of Geever. Honorary President of the Guild of Garages of Barcelona and of ASESGA (the Spanish Association of Parking and Garages). He has also held numerous other positions including Trustee of the “la Caixa” Banking Foundation, President of the “Círculo de Economía” and President of the Advisory Council for the Economic Reactivation and Growth of the Government of Catalonia.
Jordi Mercader Miró – Vicepresident
President of Miquel y Costas & Miquel. His previous professional roles include: Vice President of La Caixa, President of the AGBAR Group, President of the National Institute of Industry (INI), President of the Nacional BAZAN Military Naval Constructions Company (today Navantia) and Pulp and Paper Industries (INPACSA). He is president of the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation and has also been President of Institut Cerdà. He is a Doctor in Industrial Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Economics and Business Management from IESE.
Oriol Altisench Barbeito
Strategic Mobility Actions Director of the Barcelona Municipal Infrastructures Company (BIMSA, Barcelona City Council) and Coordinator of the Project for the Connection of the Tram Networks. He was the Dean of the College of Civil Engineers of Catalonia, and he was also Deputy Director of the Barcelona City Council Urban Ecology Department. He is a Civil Engineer, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). His professional career has involved work in both the public and private sectors related to infrastructure, urban and organizational projects, in different companies and institutions.
Marta Angerri Feu
Director of European Financing and Public Affairs, Sustainability and Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) of Grup Ametller Origen. She is a board member of the DALEPH consultancy company, and President of the 2030 Agenda Commission of Foment del Treball (The Catalan federation of entrepreneurs, business and industry). She began her professional career in the field of International Relations, in the General Secretariat for Youth of the Government of Catalonia, where she was Chief of Staff of the General Secretariat and later Head of Institutional Relations of the Ministry of the Presidency. She has also been General Director of the Cercle d’Economia (A Catalan civic association promoting independent opinion on the main challenges that determine economic, social and political progress). She has a degree in Political Science and Administration from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and a Master’s in Public Management from UPF-ESADE-UAB.
Silvia Ávila Rivero
She is the Director of Bancaseguros and Deputy Director General of Banc Sabadell. She joined Banc Sabadell where she has developed her professional career, holding various positions, including Commercial Director of Bancaseguros and General Director of the group’s insurance companies (Bansabadell Vida, Bansabadell Pensiones and Bansabadell Seguros Generales). She has a degree in Economics and Business Administration (University of Barcelona), and her other qualifications include the Executive Marketing Management Programme (ESADE) and the Zurich Leadership Program (London Business School). She is a member of the Institute of Spanish Actuaries, the International Association of Actuaries, the Circle of Economics and the Advisory Council of the Fundació Formació i Treball.
Antoni Brufau Niubó
President of Repsol and President of the Repsol Foundation. He was previously Deputy General Manager of the “La Caixa” Group and also President of the Gas Natural Group. He is a member of the Business Action Council of the CEOE, Member of the Spanish Association of Executives and the Circle of Economy, Patron of the CEDE Foundation (Spanish Confederation of Directors and Executives), Patron of Real Instituto Elcano, Patron of FUNSEAM, Patron of COTEC (Foundation for Technological Innovation) and Patron of the Princess of Girona Foundation. He has a degree in Economics from the University of Barcelona and an honorary Doctorate from the Ramon Llull University of Barcelona.
Jordi William Carnes Ayats
President of LEITAT Technological Center and President of the KIMbcn Knowledge Innovation Market Foundation. His previous professional roles include: General Director of the Barcelona Tourism Consortium, Deputy Mayor for Economic Promotion and Budget of the Barcelona City Council, Councillor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of Catalonia and President of CTecno. He has a degree in Germanic Philology from the University of Barcelona, a Master’s in Public Management from ESADE and PADE-IESE.
José Manuel Casas Aljama
Regional Director of Telefónica East, and Director of Telefónica’s Vertical Business Area in Spain, responsable for general management of Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Aragon, the Region of Murcia and the Balearic Islands. He was formerly the executive president (CEO) of Telefónica Ecuador and has worked for Telefónica for twenty years in commercial and marketing areas in Spain, Argentina and Colombia. The Vertical Business area he now directs includes Movistar Prosegur Alarmas, eHealth, Energy and Financial Services. His role also involves coordination of all the vertical businesses that are incorporated into the commercial offer for customers and companies. He has a degree in Physical Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and an MBA from IESE.
Àngels Guiteras Mestres
She is Director of the Association of Wellbeing and Development (“Associació Benestar i Desenvolupament – ABD” in Catalan). She started her professional career at the beginning of the 1980s working for a social sector organisation setting up care for those suffering alcoholism and other drug-dependencies in the City of Barcelona. She was President of the Board of the Voluntary and Social Sector of Catalonia and is a member of their Advisory Board. She has a Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Barcelona, a Diploma in Business Administration from the ESADE business school and is also qualified in the Management of Social Policy.
Xavier Llobet Colom
He is President of Istida (Investment Advisory). His previous professional roles include: being a collaborator of the Bcn Economistas Cabinet, Vice President and Founder of Crolls Mexicana (Mexico), President of the Board of Directors of Capital Impulse S.A. (Venture Capital), member of the Board of Directors of the Caja de Ahorros de Cataluña, President of the Social Council of the UPC and Founder and first President of the Polytechnic Foundation of Catalonia. He has a degree in Economics and a Business Diploma from IESE.
Pere Macias Arau
He has president of the Fundació Cercle d’Infraestructures and taught at the School of Civil Engineering of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC); has been the Mayor of Olot, Girona; President of the Provincial Council of Girona (la Diputació de Girona); Member of the Spanish Parliament, and the Catalan Parliament and a Minister of Environment and of Regional Policy and Public Works, both in the Government of Catalonia. He is a Civil Engineer.
Josep Mª Martí Escursell
Vice President and CEO of Moventia (a group of companies, with more than 4.000 collaborators, that provide services and facilitate collective and private mobility solutions to people) and Vice President and member of the Executive Committee of the FECAV and of the technical panel of ATM operators. He is a Civil Engineer (Polytechnic University of Catalonia) and also as a diploma in Senior Business Management from IESE.
Mariano Marzo Carpio
He is a Doctor of Geology, Professor of Stratigraphy and Professor of Energy Resources and Hydrocarbon Geology in the Department of Earth and Ocean Dynamics of the Faculty of Earth Sciences of the University of Barcelona. He is Director of UB-Fundación Repsol Energy Transition chair, member of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona and member of the Repsol Board of Directors (where he serves as Coordinating Independent Director and chairman of the Sustainability Commission). He has participated in various advisory councils on energy matters for both the central and regional administrations, as well as other institutions. He maintains a permanent relationship with the oil and gas industry through applied research to the sector and continuous training. He has worked in Europe, the US, South America, the Middle East and North Africa, and also works as a spokesperson and analyst on energy issues for various media.
Ángel Simón i Grimaldos
President of AGBAR and Senior Executive Vice President Spain and America of SUEZ. He is a Civil Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and has an MBA in Business Management from ESADE.
María Sisternas Tusell
CEO and Co-founder of Mediaurban, an architect and expert in urban transformation and citizen participation, with solid knowledge in the field of social sciences. She has extensive experience in the field of city design and urban consulting. She was Director of Urban Habitat Projects at the Barcelona City Council. She participates in various global urban forums and has worked for local administrations and international organisations such as the Medcités network and the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB). She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Official College of Architects of Catalonia (COAC). She has a degree in Higher Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (ETSAB) and received an Honorary Award for the Best Final Degree Project, course 2006. She also has a master’s degree in city design and Social Sciences from the London School of Economics.
Blanca Sorigué Borrell
General Director of the Barcelona Free Zone Consortium (Consorcio de la Zona Franca). She has a degree in Tourism from the University of Lérida (UdL), is a graduate of the General Management Program (PDG) at IESE and also has a Masters Degree in Marketing Management from the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). She was previously Director of the International Expansion Department at CZF. Her entire professional career has been linked to the organization of trade fairs and other professional events.
