Global Platform for Disaster Reduction
SeCRO (Institut Cerdà’s Crisis and Organizational Resilience Management Service in Chile) has been invited to attend the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (Global Platform), recognized by the General Assembly of the United Nations. SeCRO has established itself as the National Focal Point in Chile for the Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies (ARISE) initiative of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), which implies acting as a link between initiatives that may arise at the national level, channelling national companies along the lines of work, participating in regional meetings and disseminating in Chile results of work and good practices identified by UNISDR.
The Global Platform for Disaster Reduction is the leading global forum for strategic advice, coordination, partnership development and review of progress in the implementation of international instruments on disaster risk reduction.
The Global Platform is characterized by a format that facilitates dialogue and exchange among all stakeholders, both governmental and non-governmental. It has a high-level dialogue that brings together senior government officials, including heads of state and government, ministers, mayors and parliamentarians and leaders from the private sector, science and the civil society.
This edition was held from May 22th to 26th in Cancun, Mexico. This is the first time that the most important international forum dedicated to the disaster risk reduction agenda has been held outside Geneva. The meeting provided an opportunity for the international community to review global progress in implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
