Affordable Housing: The Role of Town Planning and Local Administration

Institut Cerdà, ESADE, Barcelona Global and La Vanguardia, with the support of Sogeviso, set up this event in order to offer provide an in depth debate on this subject in which the most relevant aspects were discussed, and opinions and experiences were shared, with the aim of facing this social challenge.

The debate was divided into three sessions, the first on the vision of the problem, the legal framework and the challenges to face, the second on specific or alternative proposals to create more affordable housing; and the third on the economic-financial vision that any policy needs in order to survive.

The first session "Challenges for housing: Affordable Housing" was led by Francisco Longo, Director ESADEgov, Centre for Public Governance, and involved Carme Trilla, Director of the Metropolitan Housing Observatory, Assumpció Puig, Dean of the Barcelona Institute of Architects, José Garcia Montalvo, Professor of Economics at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Sergio Nasarre, Director of the Housing Department at the Rovira i Virgili University.

The second session "Alternatives to access affordable housing. Public-private collaboration", was led by Carlos Cabrera, General Director of Institut Cerdà, and involved Pau Pérez de Acha, General Director of Sogoviso , Ramon Garcia-Bragado, Lawyer; Albert Civit, Director of INCASOL and Anna Esteve, Director of CBRE Barcelona.

 The third session "Finance and Affordable Housing New Development Frameworks" was led by Jaume Oliu, Director of Real Estate and Institutional Markets of Banco Sabadell and involved Anna Gener, Director of Savills Aguirre Newman Barcelona, ​​Juan Velayos, Chief Executive Officer of Neinor, Joan Plan, Administrator of Orim Management and Joan Clos, former Mayor of Barcelona and former Executive Director of UN-Habitat

During the afternoon session, a debate was held with candidates standing for Mayor of Barcelona in the forthcoming municipal elections that was moderated by Enric Serra de La Vanguardia.

A new tool allows the evolution of the price of fuel for container transporters at the port of BCN

Institut Cerdà has developed the calculation tool that provides reliable data relating fuel costs to overall container transport costs in the port area.
The tool has been developed by Institut Cerdà. It has been formally presented at the Port of Barcelona by Pere Padrosa, General Director of Transport and Mobility of the Generalitat of Catalonia; Mercè Conesa, President of the Port of Barcelona and Julián Arenas, Director of Innovation and Transport-Logistics at Institut Cerdà. The tool was launched as a result of the study "Fluctuation of the cost of fuel and the externality of time in road transport". This study, also by Institut Cerdà, analysed the different factors that affect the costs of the transport of goods by road.
